The fundamental objective of AEF's annual conference, beyond the programming decisions that constitute its content, is a growing body of attendees. There are three dimensions to this growth: raw quantities, specific demographics and repeat attendance.
It is, of course, good to have increasing numbers of people attending our conference, but the audience characteristics must be balanced between those who have a scholarly interest, those who come to improve the quality of their liturgical practice, and those who come with a general interest in the western music canon.
AEF's belief is that all these motivations to attend must be nurtured and balanced. Each one of these audience types makes a unique contribution the vitality of Byzantine music in the United States. Further, repeat attendance is a measure of the continued significance of our event, and its ongoing relevance to promoting the appreciation of this musical tradition.
